A Journey into the Future

A privileged glimpse into the world’s first deep geological repository for radioactive waste.

In September 2022, Nagra proposed the Nördlich Lägern region as the site for Switzerland’s deep geological repository. The mayors of the three most directly affected municipalities, Stadel, Weiach and Glattfelden, as well as interested citizens and elected representatives have since been searching for answers to the question: how can the region make the best of this situation? In a five-part series, we accompany the delegates on this quest that takes them on a research trip to Eurajoki in Finland, where the world’s first deep geological repository will go into operation in 2025.
